Making Home Affordable is a combined program of the US Dept of the Treasury and Housing and Urban Development (HUD) that aims to assist struggling homeowners with either modifying their mortgages to make them more affordable or providing a way out of homeownership avoiding foreclosure.  They sponsor a variety of different programs.
